Cessna 206 - Tiweano Equador
I came across this video of a jungle landing and just had to share it. Unfortunately the quality isn't really good. Is that a dog on the runway or a trick of the light?
I'd guess a bush. It doesn't seem to move at all, one way or another. I see wild turkeys from the helicopter all the time, then realize they are just bushes with the sun shining on them in such a way that with their shadows they look like a flock of hens. The 206 is a hoss. Love the sound of that engine!
I was actually the fortunate guy who had the privilege of filming this video. I wanted to clear up the question about the dog . . . the runway was actually clear, so it must have been an illusion.
Sorry about the poor quality via YouTube. The raw video is actually in 1080i. I could arrange for you to download it in HD, if it would interest you.

It looks like we might have some common interests outside of aviation. I'm an IT guy, too . . . thought I can't say that I share your love of open source. I run a Micro$oft shop. :)
Thanks for your comment, and the video. I thought it was an illusion but sometimes those are as interesting as the video, which in this case is quite striking. As an IT guy I know that you can't be held responsible for the quality that YouTube provides, thanks for the offer of the full quality image but I imagine it is quite large.
It takes all kinds, at the risk of being band from Slash Dot, I will just say that Bill didn't get to be that rich by selling software nobody wanted ;)

I think it was a dog. Better a dog than a deer (or in the jungle, something bigger like a buffalo!)
